Overview
The Tools page allows you to configure the capabilities available to Kyvos Dialogs within an AI Space. By enabling the required tools, you can extend the AI's ability to answer questions using semantic models, enterprise knowledge bases, web content, and advanced code execution.
Each tool can be enabled or disabled independently. You can also configure tool-specific settings, define execution dependencies between tools, and provide custom instructions to control tool behavior.
Points to know
Web Search is not supported with Anthropic models.
Audit information for sample question generation is not captured for Amazon Bedrock and Gemini connections configured with an AI Space.
In Deep Dive mode, Azure and Vertex AI do not display the previous planner context during subsequent planner executions.
Configure AI Space tools
Open the required AI Space.
In the left navigation pane, click Tools. The Tools pane is displayed.
Some tools can be configured to run only after one or more prerequisite tools have completed. Configure these dependencies using the Prerequisite Tools list to control the order in which tools are executed.
Review the list of available tools.
SQL Generator and Executor: Enables Kyvos Dialogs to convert natural language questions into SQL, execute the queries against the associated semantic models, and return data-grounded responses. You can configure the following options:
Enable or disable the tool.
Prerequisite tools – Select the tool to run before executing a specific tool.
Configure instructions – Provide custom instructions to guide how the tool generates and executes SQL.
Lookup Knowledge Base: Allows Kyvos Dialogs to retrieve information from enterprise knowledge sources, such as policy documents, business rules, and best-practice documentation, to generate grounded responses. Using the plus icon, you can create multiple instances of the Lookup Knowledge Base tool configured in an AI Space. You can:
Enable or disable the tool.
Add and configure one or more knowledge base sources.
Web and URL Search: Allows Kyvos Dialogs to search the web or specified URLs to supplement responses with publicly available information. Using the plus icon, multiple instances of Web Search tool can be configured in an AI Space.
Use this tool when queries require external information such as:Regulatory updates
Market trends
Industry news
Public reference material
You can enable or disable this tool as required.
Code Generator and Executor: Allows Kyvos Dialogs to generate and execute Python code in a secure sandbox to perform advanced analytical tasks beyond standard SQL queries. Typical use cases include:
Statistical analysis
Forecasting
Scenario modeling
Custom metric calculations
You can enable or disable this tool based on your analytical requirements.
Enable the required tool using the toggle switch.
Configure the tool settings, if applicable.
Click Save to apply the changes.
Configure the Lookup Knowledge Base Tool
The Lookup Knowledge Base tool enables Kyvos Dialogs to retrieve information from enterprise knowledge sources, such as policy documents, business rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and best practices. This helps the AI generate responses that are grounded in your organization's knowledge rather than relying solely on semantic models.
You can configure the tool by defining its purpose, providing contextual instructions, specifying retrieval parameters, enabling summarization, and setting prerequisite tools.
Configuration options
Purpose: Specify the primary objective of the Lookup Knowledge Base tool. The purpose helps the AI determine when and why the tool should be used during query execution.
Example: Retrieve company policies and compliance guidelines before answering user queries.Content: Provide additional context or instructions that define how the tool should search and use information from the configured knowledge base. Use this field to:
Define the types of documents to search.
Specify preferred sources.
Prioritize specific business rules or policies.
Restrict the tool to particular knowledge domains.
Example: Search HR policies, employee handbook, and leave guidelines before using other knowledge sources.
TopK: Specifies the maximum number of relevant results retrieved for each query. Increasing the value retrieves more results but may increase processing time.
Range: 1–50
Default: 5
Threshold Score: Specifies the minimum similarity score required for a result to be included in the response. Higher values return only highly relevant results, while lower values include a broader set of matching documents.
Range: -1 to 1
Default: 0.7
Enable Summarization: Summarizes the retrieved knowledge base content before it is incorporated into the final response. Enable this option to:
Reduce lengthy responses from large documents.
Improve readability.
Present concise and relevant information.
Prerequisite Tools: Select one or more tools that must run before the Lookup Knowledge Base tool is executed. This option allows you to define the execution order when multiple tools are enabled in the AI Space
Configure the Web and URL Search Tool
The Web and URL Search tool enables Kyvos Dialogs to retrieve information from trusted websites and public web sources. It supplements responses with external information such as regulatory updates, market trends, industry news, and publicly available reference material, allowing the AI to combine web-based knowledge with your enterprise data.
You can configure the tool by defining its purpose, restricting searches to trusted domains, controlling the amount of information retrieved, specifying a geographic context, and defining prerequisite tools.
Configuration options
Purpose: Specify the objective of the Web and URL Search tool. The purpose helps the AI determine when external web searches should be performed and how the retrieved information should be used.
Example: Search trusted government and regulatory websites for the latest compliance updates before generating a response.Allowed Domains (optional): Specify one or more trusted domains that the tool can search. When domains are specified, the search is restricted to those websites. If this field is left blank, the tool can search across publicly available web sources.
Example:
who.int
http://cdc.gov
http://food.gov.ukSearch Context Size: Determines how much content the tool retrieves from each search result. Available options include:
Small – Retrieves less content for faster, more focused responses.
Medium – Balances response quality and performance.
Large – Retrieves more content to provide richer context but may increase response time.
Location (optional): Specifies the geographic context for web searches. You can configure the location by:
Selecting a predefined Time Zone.
Entering a location manually.
Providing a location helps return results that are relevant to a specific region, such as local regulations, regional news, or market events.
Prerequisite Tools (optional): Select one or more tools that must run before the Web and URL Search tool is executed. This allows you to define the execution order when multiple tools are enabled in the AI Space.
Configure Instructions to define tool-specific behavior, if required. Click Configure Instructions to define custom instructions for the Web and URL Search tool.
Note
Restricting searches to trusted domains helps ensure that responses are based on reliable and authoritative sources. Changes to the tool configuration take effect after you save the AI Space.
Configure the Code Generator and Executor Tool
The Code Generator and Executor tool enables Kyvos Dialogs to generate and execute Python code in a secure sandbox environment. It is designed for advanced analytical tasks that go beyond standard SQL queries, such as statistical analysis, forecasting, scenario modeling, and custom metric calculations.
You can configure the tool by defining its purpose, specifying prerequisite tools, and providing custom instructions to guide how code is generated and executed.
Configuration options
Purpose: Specify the objective of the Code Generator and Executor tool. The purpose helps the AI determine when Python code should be generated and executed to answer user queries. Use this field to define the types of analytical tasks the tool should perform.
Prerequisite Tools (optional): Select one or more tools that must be executed before the Code Generator and Executor tool. This option allows you to control the execution order when multiple tools are enabled in the AI Space. For example, you can configure the tool to execute only after the SQL Generator and Executor retrieves data from the semantic model.
Configure Instructions: Click Configure Instructions to define custom instructions for the Code Generator and Executor tool.
You can use these instructions to customize how Python code is generated, executed, and presented in the response.
For example, you can instruct the tool to:
Use Python only when SQL cannot perform the required analysis.
Generate readable and optimized Python code.
Include charts or tables in the output when appropriate.
Perform statistical analysis, forecasting, or scenario modeling.
Avoid unnecessary computations and optimize execution time.
Note
Changes to the tool configuration take effect after you save the AI Space and are applied to subsequent queries.
