1. Overview

This section describes how to migrate Kyvos cluster nodes from CentOS to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on Google Cloud Platform by updating the boot disk and startup scripts for each Kyvos component.

2. Migration Steps

Step 1: Migrate the Analytical Server and Query Engine

  1. Stop the machines — In the Google Cloud console, stop the Analytical Server and Query Engine VMs.

  2. Open the machine settings — After a machine stops, click it to open its details screen, then click Edit.

  3. Detach the old boot disk — Scroll down to the boot disk section and select Detach Boot Disk. The option to configure a new boot disk will now appear.

  4. Configure the new boot disk — Click Configure Boot Disk. In the side panel that opens:

    • Select RHEL as the operating system

    • Name the new boot disk

    • Set the remaining options as shown below

  5. Confirm the boot disk — Click Select. Your boot disk settings should now match the example below.

  6. Update the startup script — Scroll to the startup script section, remove the existing content, and replace it with the new script: Download bi_qe.sh

  7. Save and start — Save your changes and start the machine.

  8. Repeat steps 2–7 for both the Analytical Server and the Query Engine.

  9. Verify — In Kyvos Manager, confirm that the Analytical Server and Query Engine are up and running.

Step 2: Migrate the Kyvos Manager (KM)

  1. Stop the KM machine in the Google Cloud console.

  2. Replace the boot disk — Detach the old boot disk and attach a new one of the same size, following steps 2–5 above.

  3. Update metadata — Change the Rerun metadata value from false to true.

  4. Update the startup script — Remove the existing script content and replace it with the new script: Download km.sh

  5. Verify — Open the Kyvos Manager portal and confirm that everything is up and running.

3. Verifying the Migration

To confirm that a node has successfully migrated from CentOS to RHEL 8, run the following command on each Kyvos component node:

bash

cat /etc/redhat-release

Expected output:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.8 (Ootpa)
