MDX (Multidimensional Expressions) is the query language used to retrieve data from multidimensional data sources in Kyvos. It enables analysts, developers, and BI professionals to construct sophisticated analytical queries against semantic models — returning data across multiple dimensions simultaneously and expressing complex business calculations inline.

What MDX Enables in Kyvos

Calculated Measures: Define new numeric measures on the fly (e.g., Profit Margin, Growth %) without modifying the underlying semantic model
Calculated Members: Define new dimension members for analytical groupings (e.g., "Top Tier Customers", "YoY Comparison")
Named Sets: Define reusable, named collections of members for repeated use across queries
Time Intelligence: Year-to-date, quarter-to-date, period-over-period comparisons using built-in temporal functions
Ranking and Filtering: Identify top/bottom performers, apply conditional filtering, rank across dimensions
Cross-Dimensional Analysis: Combine members from multiple dimensions in a single result set
