Managing system scheduling and capacity
Overview
Kyvos enables you to optimize resource utilization and control cloud infrastructure costs by dynamically adjusting cluster resources and Query Engine capacity based on workload demands.
Hybrid Scaling (supported from Kyvos 2026.5 onwards) allows you to combine time-based and load-based scaling within the same day. This approach enables you to maintain fixed Query Engine capacity during predictable workload periods, such as business hours, while automatically scaling resources based on system load during periods of variable or unpredictable activity.
For cloud deployments, you can configure and manage hybrid scaling from the Kyvos Web Portal. This capability helps improve cluster utilization, maintain query performance during peak demand, and reduce computing costs during periods of low activity.
You can define Query Engine capacity for each configured event or scaling period and adjust it over time based on observed usage patterns. Monitoring workload trends helps determine when to increase capacity, reduce resources, or temporarily take services offline to optimize resource consumption.
Note
When you deploy a Kyvos cluster, the fixed and the Load modes are displayed when you add a schedule.
You can create a schedule to change the cluster state at any point in time by setting the Query Engine capacity by using the Change Cluster State link, which is available on the 'Cluster Scaling' page.
To view the Cluster Scheduling page, from the Toolbox, click Setup > Cluster Scaling. The Cluster Scaling page is displayed.
Cluster Scaling page elements
On this page, you can also do the following:
View the cluster event legends as follows:
Click the following buttons:
Actions menu: Click the Actions menu (...) to do the following:
load-based rules
Cluster scaling settings
Cluster events subscription
Audit logs
Add the Schedule option to specify schedule-based scheduling (fixed) or load-based scaling.
Revert: To revert your changes.
Save: To save your changes
The Cluster Current State information is displayed with the selected capacity. It also displays the number of Query Engines and analytical servers in use for the current schedule.
Change Cluster state: Use this option to change the cluster state.
Show/Hide details: Use this option to show or hide the and query engine state.
View the cluster schedule entries you have set for weekdays or weekends with specified times and cluster capacity.
A red bar in the schedule box indicates the current time of the Kyvos system.
View the current schedule time with the selected cluster capacity.
View the type of Query Engine cluster capacity you can set.
Subscribe to notifications
Click the Actions menu (...) located in the upper right corner of a cluster scaling page, and then click Subscribe Cluster Events to subscribe to receive notifications for cluster events. These events include the cluster shutting down as per schedule, the cluster state scaling down due to Cluster scheduling, all query engines being up and in a running state, the cluster state scaling down, entity modifications, or a license expiring soon.
You can set up notifications and subscriptions as needed.
Tip
If you subscribe to the Notify if the cluster shuts down as per schedule, you will receive an email with details on how to restart the cluster if you need to manually.
View cluster audit logs
Click the Actions menu (...) located in the upper right corner of a cluster scaling page, and then click View Audit Logs to view audit logs for cluster scaling events. This opens the Monitor page and displays all the events that have occurred on your cluster along with the details. You can view details about default and user-created schedules and download logs of any cluster scaling event.
Changing cluster state
You can change the cluster capacity as required. See the https://docs.support.kyvosinsights.com/wiki/spaces/KD20265/pages/1152077972 section for more details.
